Mirror Play for Grown-ups
Who is the person behind your mirror? What do they say to go when you pause to reflect on what you see. Are they always complimentary, or do they barrage you with comments that suggest you don’t look quite right, you are weak, stupid, or simply not good enough. If a close friend was behind this reflective glass and said to you any of these things that you are saying to yourself, would you accept it? If not, then why do we put up with it from ourselves?
Positive Psychology
Positive psychology was developed as a new arm of psychology by Martin Seligman in 1998, which sought to change the focus from looking at the negative aspects of what was wrong with people to embracing and developing what is right with people. More than the popularised self-help strategies, Positive Psychology is an evidence-based Science, meaning that the theories and methods practised have been stringently researched and tested and have documented results.
Finding your balance
But, do you find yourself sitting in the office, yearning for more time for yourself, or wanting more in life, or perhaps contemplating a sporting challenge to regain balance? There is unfortunately no universal recipe to unwind, because every individual has a unique way of handling and dealing with stress. However, a simple rule applies to most; a healthy harmony between activity and relaxation is necessary to stay fit in both mind and body.
